June 11, 2010 Are you looking for more information about infertility? Want to read about others’ experiences? Well, if you’re in the market for some summer reading, we’d like to share a few of our favorite blogs.
If you blog – or we’ve missed your favorite blog, please let us know by emailing us at mnair@villagepharmacy.com and we will include it in our next newsletter.
Here’s a quick overview of what we’re reading these days: - “Stirrup Queens: Dispatches from the Land of IF, cities in Between, and points beyond …” – Follow Melissa, otherwise known as Mel, The Stirrup Queen and, most recently, Lollipop Goldstein. She is also the author of “Navigating the Land of IF.” She blogs about infertility and pregnancy loss, adoption and donor gametes, and daily life as a sustainable-living, kosher, Jewish, mother of twins conceived via fertility treatments who is still trying to add to her family.
- “Divine Secrets of the Infertility Sisterhood” – This is Tara’s story. As she tells it, “I am 30 years old and have been married to the love of my life for four and a half years. We tossed out the birth control on New Year’s Day, 2007. I'm not sure how we got here - I've questioned every choice I've made, every road I've chosen, every single thing I've ever done. I keep coming back to thinking that all we can do is roll with the punches and try to get through this chapter in our lives. This is our journey through infertility.”
- “In Pursuit of Parenthood” – Michelle says, “I started this blog back in 2006, when I first began treatments for infertility. At that time, it had been three years since we had started trying to begin our family. Once treatments began, it became clear that infertility was not a quick detour on this road of life; rather, it's a journey. At the end of it all, when those beautiful children finally come into my life, I want them to know that they were loved years before they were mine. So, I am writing this for me and for them. And if it allows you to peek into my world, then that's good, too.”
- “The Sassy Infertile Lady’s Journey Toward Adoption” – As the “Sassy Infertile Lady” will tell you, her blog revolves around her quirky adventures, fun-loving and sassy insights, sometimes ridiculous comments and rants about daily life, and her journey toward adoption. Her husband occasionally provides guest commentary.
- “Misconceptions about Conception” – This “TTC” blogger has been trying to conceive since April of 2008. She says, “I am 39 years old, an attorney and former registered nurse. My husband is 36 and works in community corrections. Our infertility is ‘unexplained.’ All our testing has been normal, and the only explanation our RE has ever offered for our inability to conceive is ‘old eggs.’”
- “Parenthood for Me” – Meet Erica, an adoptive mom, non-profit founder, and woman who is dealing with the life-altering condition of infertility. She writes, “Everyone should be entitled to parenthood and having a family. ParenthoodforMe.org is a national non-profit that aids people building their families through adoption or medical intervention.”
- “The Infertile Mind” – This blogger says, “Okay, let's call this a first draft. I feel like each time I tell my infertility story it varies slightly - sometimes the focus is me, sometimes it's my miscarriages, sometimes it's my marriage, sometimes it's my parents … so bear with me. Here we go …”
- “The Fertility Advocate” – Pamela Madsen has been the president and the executive director of RESOLVE NYC, and she is the founder and first executive director of The American Fertility Association. Now, she uses “The Fertility Advocate” to share her insights about everything from infertility to body image issues with other women.
